Reiki

Reiki, a form of complementary therapy, originated in Japan in the early 20th century and was developed by Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist monk. Usui reportedly experienced a transformative spiritual awakening while fasting and meditating on Mount Kurama. During this experience, he claimed to have received the ability to channel a universal life force energy, which he later named “Reiki.”

The term “Reiki” is derived from two Japanese words: “rei,” meaning universal, and “ki,” meaning life energy. Reiki practitioners believe that this energy flows through all living beings and can be directed to promote healing, relaxation, and overall well-being.

During a Reiki session, the practitioner lightly places their hands on or just above the recipient’s body, channeling energy to help balance the body’s energy centers, known as chakras. This process is thought to promote physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual healing.

Reiki is not tied to any specific religion and is practiced by individuals from diverse backgrounds. Over time, various styles of Reiki have emerged, such as Usui Reiki, Karuna Reiki, and Tibetan Reiki, each with its own unique methods and philosophies.

While scientific research on Reiki is limited, many people who receive treatments report feeling calmer, more relaxed, and a general sense of improved well-being. Reiki is considered a gentle and non-invasive practice with no known adverse side effects, making it a popular complementary therapy for reducing stress, anxiety, and pain and enhancing overall wellness. Reiki is a natural healing method that complements traditional medicine.
It is highly beneficial in the healing of many physical ailments and emotional trauma, and it is also helpful during pregnancy and birth. However, it is essential to note that Reiki is not a substitute for professional medical care.
